Sake Tasting in Tokyo: Enjoy Different Flavorful Notes of Sake

When visiting Japan, you soon realize that Sake is to Japan what wine is to France. There is an incredibly extensive list of types of sake in Japan. Just like wine, sake can be sweet or dry and can have different flavor-notes, such as spices, herbs, flowers, and fruits. Let's embark on a flavor-filled journey and discover sake tasting in Tokyo!

Nihonshu Stand Moto

This tiny bar is in the basement of a Shinjuku building, so it's not guaranteed you'll be able to find a spot if you go. It's a standing bar, and around 12 people can get in.
The staff is incredibly helpful and will gladly recommend different interesting types of sake. This place is awesome!

Kuri

This tiny bar in Ginza only offers less than a dozen seats, but it has a wide selection of over 100 sakes to choose from.
There is a ¥2000 tasting set (a flight of six 60ml cups). Please note there is a ¥800 cover charge.

Meishu Center

The Meishu Center is a sake store that also doubles as a bar. There are over 100 bottles to choose from. You can of course buy some of them and try them at home, or you can also try the sake tasting on the spot. You can also make your own tasting flight or ask the staff to give you advice in accordance to your taste.
Price: By the glass ranges from ¥200~

Dassai bar 23

Dassai has opened a bar in the Tokyo Square garden. There are various sake types to choose from, and you can also choose between 5 sake tasting sets.
Please note that there is a ¥1000 service charge per person.

Kozue

Beautifully located on the 40th floor of the Park Hyatt Tokyo hotel. If you're willing to splurge a little, you can enjoy finely selected ingredients paired with delicious sake. It will be a an unforgettable Japanese dining experience. Since it is located on the 40th floor, it offers a breathtaking view over Tokyo.

Hasegawa Saketen

This shop is probably the most convenient given that it has so many locations across Tokyo, such as in Kameido Azabujuban, Omotesando, Tokyo station, etc. Some branches are like actual bars, whereas some are more just like sake stores.

Sawanoi

Ozawa brewery was founded over 300 years ago and is surrounded by natural beauty, although it is located in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. So you can enjoy your sake tasting while enjoying the beautiful view as well!

Kurand Sake Market

This sake bar is on the fourth floor of a building located 5 mins walk of the west exit of Shinjuku station. A cozy place where you can find a lot of sake bottles on the counter.

They also have branches in Shibuya, Ueno, Ikebukuro, and Shimbashi, most of the central stations of Tokyo!

What is special about this bar is you can enjoy unlimited all-you-can-drink sake for 3200 yen!! Once you pay, it's all you can drink. They have over 200 types of sake so try as much as possible and enjoy the differences.

It is also allowed to bring some food and eat while drinking if you want. If you want to enjoy various kinds of sake in one spot with your friends, go visit KURAND SAKE MARKET!

Stand Up Bar Buri

Did you know that Japanese sakes are sold in glass cups too? Located near Ebisu station, Buri focuses on cup sake from all around Japan. The wall is filled with sake cups which gives a museum-like atmosphere to the bar.

They also offer some "mizore-sake" (half-frozen sake). Super refreshing!
