Hayashiya Nakanoso is a popular restaurant in Nakano, Tokyo, that has been featured numerous times in the media. Go during lunchtime and the place is always packed. We went to see what all the fuss is about and tried their signature dish, the Hayashi-omu, which is hashed beef with a Japanese-style omelet.

A Hearty Dish

The omelet topping alone is pretty filling because it contains three eggs. Mixed with butter, it's super fluffy and irresistibly rich.

Take a bit and you'll notice a sweet taste of tomato and a more zesty taste too that comes from the addition of yuzu lemon condiments. The rice is flavoured with chicken.

Hayashi rice in Japan is usually made of beef but this one is a mixture of beef and pork that are cooked together a long time so the taste is really full of umami. The normal plate is pretty filling but if you've really worked up an appetite you can have more rice for ¥100 or more rice and roux for an additional ¥150.

Lastly...

On the first floor there are only counter seats but on the second there are tables. The retro decor is also quite charming! Hayashiya Nakanoso is a great place to go for some Japanese comfort food.
