Sushi doesn't have to be super expensive in Japan to be good. These addresses in Nagoya will prove you just that. Here are the 5 best sushi restaurants you can eat at without causing too much damage to your wallet.

Senkoku Sushi 仙石すし

For cheap, fresh, good quality sushi in Nagoya, the name Sengoku Sushi is unavoidable. It serves huge bowls and plates with many kinds of sushi that are between ¥880 to ¥1,530 for lunch. One order should be enough for 1 person, and the most expensive ones with more sushi are almost good for two according to the restaurant. Prices are a bit more expensive for dinner but still very reasonable. What's great about this restaurant is not just the fresh neta (toppings) of the sushi but also the nice traditional atmosphere. They have some tatami seat tables for a truly Japanese experience.

Sushi Ichiba Sho すし市場 正

Sho is a sushi train restaurant well worth the go. Their lunch specials (11:00 - 14:00) include kaisendon (seafood bowl) that start at ¥580, and some luxurious assortments that come with a soup and a savoury egg custard called chawanmushi that cost no more than ¥1,800. Of course, you can order a la carte plenty too and it shouldn't cost you over ¥3,000. The grilled anago (conger eel) nigiri sushi are particularly popular here.

Uegaoka Sushi-no Midori 梅丘寿司の美登利 名古屋店

Simply put, Midori Sushi is reliably excellent for the price. Midori is a chain that originated in Tokyo and that now has this one branch outside of the capital. It is known for having some top-quality neta (toppings) that comes directly from the Tsukiji Fish Market, and for having surprisingly affordable sushi for the quality. At the Nagoya branch, you can order a really nice "barachirashi" bowl (bowl of rice with many kinds of sushi toppings) for just ¥700. For dinner time, a popular choice is the 13-piece ¥1,300 assortment.

Kanazawa Maimon Sushi Umebachi Tei 金沢まいもん寿司 梅鉢亭

Umebachi Tei is a really nice izakaya-style sushi restaurant. It is a bit more expensive than the ones previously introduced but still affordable. The most expensive thing you can order is the "enkai course" or feast course which comes with so many items and not just sushi, but also tempura for instance. This feast is ¥5,500. Add ¥2,000 and you can even make it an all-you-can-drink course. Other sets start at ¥1,400.

Sushi Rosan 鮨 魯山

Sushi Rosan is one of the best choice for affordable sushi in Nagoya. Its reputation comes from the freshness of the neta and the seasonal sets they offer. Here, you probably won't have to dip your sushi in soy sauce as they are served with just the right amount in them. The rice is on the soft side and it is said to be less sweet than average. For lunch expect to pay around ¥1,500 and for dinner it can go up to ¥4,500.
