Enjoy Authentic Thai Cuisine At Ban Thai

Ban Thai is one of the most popular affordable Thai restaurants in Tokyo. Conveniently located in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku, the restaurant is quite spacious and has an elegant traditional Thai atmosphere. It's a good place to go drinking with friends at night or having a cheap lunch meal.
The restaurant is in Kabukicho in Shinjuku, on the third floor of a building containing a number of businesses and shops. It's at near the Seibu Shinjuku station or at about a 5-minute walk from the east exit of the JR Shinjuku station.

Lunch Specials Under ¥1,000

The tom yum soup is ¥900. You can't go wrong with this one which has just the right balance of citrusy taste and spiciness.
The green curry as a lunch set comes with rice, a Thai soup, a small salad and a dessert too.

They have a kind of red curry that is made with beef instead of the typical chicken used for green curry. The red one is a bit sweeter.
The combination of basil and pork minced meat is hard to resist. Try the Gapao rice for ¥850.
You shouldn't overlook the stir-fried items. They have some very nice ones that are made with a generous amount of vegetables. This one is the "kushinsai", which is sometimes called water spinach in English.

Dinner Time

If you are going for dinner with other people, a good way to make the best of your visit is to order a course meal. They range in price from ¥2,500 to ¥5,000.
Each course comes with seven or eight different items so you get a nice variety of foods.
The courses change a little with the seasons. Feel free to inquire about what are the chef's recommendations.
Drinks include wines, Thai beers, and whiskey and shochu-based drinks. if you go in a group, of five or more, you can add an all-you-can-drink option to your course.

Traditional Thai Desserts

If you want to end your meal on a sweet note, you can try this Thai dessert which consists of a piece of squash stuffed with custard. The is also a nice mango sherbert served inside a mango cut in half.
