Located just a minute walk away from Namba station, this affordable Chinese restaurant is super popular for its steamed dumplings ('shumai'), spring rolls ('harumaki') and karaage chicken ('wakadori karaage'). It'll cost you about ¥1,000. Sets that come with rice and soup are between ¥800 and ¥1,050, and you can have a large portion of rice at no extra cost.
551 Horai Ebisubashi Honten
This restaurant beloved by the locals has been around since 1945. The reason for its ongoing success is great quality at a reasonable price. Every menu item is handmade inhouse. You'll be blown away by how tasty their popular meat buns are! Not only are they made with great care by hand, but the ingredients are also of good quality, and no chemically made flavours are added to the food.
The claim to fame of this restaurant is its irresistible mabodofu (also called mapo tofu). It's fragrant, tasty and overall more refined than what you get elsewhere. You can choose the level of spiciness that you want. The price of the lunch set is just ¥850 so it's well worth the go if you're on the west side of Umeda/Osaka station where the restaurant is located.
The Sichuan-style beef stew at this restaurant is pretty amazing and also not something you find easily at other restaurants. The mabodofu is also a standout popular item, and if you feel like being a bit fancier, try their Pekin duck! You won't be disappointed. Soryukyo is located a 4-minute walk from the Temma station.
This is a wonderful restaurant offering original Chinese food from Shichuan and Pekin cuisines. It was awarded the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand mention indicating an exceptionally good restaurant that is also quite affordable. For lunch, you can eat there for around ¥1,500 or less. Dinner is more expensive at ¥5,000 to ¥8,000 but you still get the bang for your buck considering the exceptional quality and taste. Shuchuka Kushin is located a 3-minute walk from Nishioohashi station.
