Maid cafes are iconic to Akihabara, so if you're exploring the district looking for a quintessential Electric Town experience, you might want to give one a try. Whether you're alone or with friends, they're pretty entertaining!

A fun maid cafe to visit in the heart of Akihabara is Maid Cafe Pinafore in the Ichibanboshi Theatre. It's located a 5-minute walk from the Denkigai Exit of Akihabara Station (JR Line) or a 3-minute walk from Suehirocho Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza Line).

We'll describe below in detail what an experience at Pinafore is like. Also, to get an idea of what the cafe is like and where it is located, you can check out their Instagram page and YouTube channel from the links below.

A maid welcomes you with a menu and an explanation of the system

Once you get into the cafe on the 3rd floor, a smiling maid will immediately greet you with a menu and an explanation of how the system works. They have menus and explanations in English meaning you can rest assured even if you don't understand Japanese.

In a nutshell, most people order sets that feature various combinations of savory foods, desserts, beverages, and experiential extras such as a snapshot with your maid or a dance performance. These sets vary in price from ¥1,500 to ¥3,000.

You can order all kinds of snack plates, colourful cocktails, main dishes, and cute desserts a la carte, too.

The 'omurice' is worth the try!

'Omurice' is not very well known outside of Japan, but it's actually one of the nation's favorite comfort foods. It consists of super tasty chicken fried rice wrapped in a thin Japanese-style omelette. You should definitely give it a try if you haven't! It's one of Pinafore's signature dishes, and you also get a fun performance by the maid when she serves it to you (see the video below).
First, the maid shows off her artistic talent by drawing some cute pictures on your omurice with ketchup. You can ask her to write your name or anything else you'd like. Once she's done with the writing and drawing, she does an 'omajinai,' which is a special ritual during which she utters words and does some gestures as a blessing to your food to make it taste delicious. Every maid does her own special thing, and she might ask you to join her in doing the omajinai.

Quench your thirst with a variety of cute beverages and cocktails

You can also enjoy a similar kind of performance with the cafe latte, matcha latte, strawberry milk, hot chocolate, or milk. They all come with a thick creamy foam on which the maid draws your request with a sweet syrup.

Pinafore also has some colorful original cocktails (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). The premium ones pictured above are over-the-top kawaii, and they even come with a special bonus snapshot of your maid.

If you plan on having a few drinks, you might want to consider the all-you-can-drink which is ¥1,950 for 90 minutes.

Got a sweet tooth? These won't disappoint!

Pinafore's signature animal-themed pancakes were probably the pancakes of your dreams when you were a kid! The super fluffy treats are served to you nice and hot, with a scoop of ice cream, whipped cream, cookies, and candy decorations as toppings.

Perhaps the best summertime dessert is one of Pinafore's parfaits!

Beautiful deluxe parfaits are a kind of staple dessert at authentic Japanese coffee shops. Pinafore serves the same kind of delicious, visually impressive, parfaits but with a special maid cafe-style kawaii twist. They're served in a pink cup packed with whipped cream, ice cream, and cute toppings.

Ask for a special dance and get your snapshot before you leave!

An interesting perk at Pinafore is that there is a stage in the cafe that's used for special maid dance and song performances. You can order one from ¥1,000, and they're also included in some of the sets.

Polaroid camera snapshots with the maids are very much part of the Pinafore experience as well, so better get one before you leave as a souvenir of your visit!

Snapshots are included in some sets. You can also ask for one as an extra if it's not part of your set. The cost is ¥800 per person for a regular-sized one and ¥1,200 for a large size.

In closing...
