5 excellent options for vegetarians around Ueno Station

Wondering where to have some of the best vegetarian foods around Ueno? Here are our 5 top recommendations!

Feel free to follow favy!

T's tantan

T's tantan is well-known among the vegetarian community of Tokyo. They have a couple of branches across the city. The most popular items are the vegetarian and vegan ramen bowls and tantanmen (soupless ramen) but at this Ueno location, you can even order some special menu items that you can't order anywhere else. Try this fake pork 'shogayaki' for instance. Meat eaters say that the fake pork used actually tastes exactly like pork. That set which comes with a couple of side dishes is ¥1,080.

This location is on the 3rd floor of Ecute Ueno, inside Ueno Station.

Hard Rock Cafe Ueno

Hard Rock Cafe is conveniently located on the ground level of the station, next to the main exit of Ueno station. It's a good gathering spot for that reason. The retro rock American gourmet burger shop is not a bad choice at all for vegetarians because they do offer some excellent meatless options. Try their hearty BBQ Pineapple Veggie Burger (pictured above) made with black beans, corn, and quinoa.

It serves homemade Japanese vegan teishoku sets that change every day. They even have a special Japanese-style vegan lunch dessert (e.g. miso and walnut cake).

VEGE HERB SAGA

VEGE HERB SAGA offers amazing authentic vegetarian Indian cuisine. The whole restaurant is vegetarian, and the only animal product they use is milk, so vegans can inquire which options have no dairy.

You'll be amazed by how tasty the curries are with just the right balance of herbs and spices. Many dishes are freshly made for you so it may take a bit of time for your order to come, but you'll be rewarded with some of the best vegetarian Indian dishes you can have in Tokyo. Prices are fair too, with lunch specials starting at ¥880.

Guruatsu ぐるあつ

This charming cafe serves vegetable-centric cuisine with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The dishes are colorful and healthy; it's the perfect option if you feel like you need a good dose of vitamins.
